Barn quilts are appearing in the windows of businesses in Tecumseh’s downtown, along Highway 50 and even one in Burr. You may be thinking it would be nice to have one for yourself. Well, you’re in luck! A silent auction is being held on 24 different two-foot-square barn quilts to raise funds for the Tecumseh Downtown Historic Creative District.
Anywhere you see a barn quilt in the window, you can go inside the business and sign up with a bid on the bid sheet. Bids start at $50. Bidding will go on through July 18 and the barn quilts will be distributed July 18th during the Bring a Chair to the Square concert featuring Corsons Branch Buzzard Club. The barn quilts are all pictured on the Creative District’s Facebook page along with where they are located. The current high bids will be updated as often as possible. Bids may be entered on the Tecumseh Creative District Facebook page or by calling Kerri Miller at 402-335-0297.
“The goal was to put them in the shops so people would go in the shops,” said Sarah Williamson, president of the Johnson County Nebraska Historical Society. “The barn quilts are very diverse, very pretty. ... We want to make money, but we also want to promote local artists and get people in the stores.”
