Auburn High School hosted its Homecoming Pep Rally on Sunday, Sept. 28. From 1 to 3 p.m., attendees enjoyed a number of events, grilled hotdogs and fight songs played by the AHS band. To kick the festivities off, a parade featuring the fall athletic teams and the Homecoming royalty candidates rolled from Courthouse Square down O Street before turning down 14th and ending at the High School.
Following the parade was a Powderpuff Flag Football game played by teams of AHS girls. Those teams were coached by football head coach Rick Janssen and softball coach Mike Henrichs. The game was close, with both teams scoring a touchdown each and, after two ten-minute halves, the girls in yellow kicked a field goal to break the tie and win.
Introduced by Mayor Chris Erickson, each of the fall sports head coaches brought their teams down to the track and spoke about their seasons and wished those other teams the best of luck this week and throughout the remainder of the fall. When the addresses were finished, the Homecoming royalty was asked to find a seat along a tarp and blindfolded. Each was asked a question about one of the other royalty members’ childhood, and those who guessed incorrectly received various goopy surprised on their heads, from eggs to mustard and even catfood. To the audience’s delight, those who answered correctly still got messy rewards and, when all the questions were answered, a bag of powdered sugar was dumped on them “for dessert.”
