First Quarter Thunderbird Lead Erased as Johnson-Brock Delivers JCC’s First Loss

First Quarter Thunderbird Lead Erased as Johnson-Brock Delivers JCC’s First Loss
JCC’S 2025 HOMECOMING ROYALTY were, from the left: Jack Waring, Harley Lubben, Owen Weber, Ashley Beethe, King Wes Swanson, Queen Saige Rother, Levi Othmer, Catherine Wendt, Danny Kongmanyvong and Charlyn Bobadilla.

The score after one quarter in the gridiron battle between the Eagles and the Thunderbirds Friday night would be a poor predictor of the final score between the two teams. A then undefeated Johnson County Central team held on to an 8-0 lead over a one-loss Johnson-Brock team, but the next three quarters would be an Eagle barrage as Johsnon-Brock took full control of the contest to defeat JCC by a score of 54-8.

JCC’s Wes Swanson ran in the only touchdown in the first quarter, which gave the Thunderbirds their only lead of the game. The quarterback was six-of-15 for 57 yards passing and took the ball himself eight times for 21 rushing yards, including the score, as he was also JCC’s top rusher.

Despite the early peak, the Thunderbird offense would pale in comparison to the Eagles, who tallied 220 yards in the rushing game, led by Senior Hayden Gravatt with 105 yards and two touchdowns. Gravatt also scored on a reception, Johnson-Brock’s top receiver in Brody Koehler had another strong performance, scooping up five passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.
