Donald Harry Hopp, adopted son of Harry C. Hopp and Emma L. C. (Schacht) Hopp, was born on August 31, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri. Donald spent all his life on the farm. He graduated from Talmage High School in 1944 and observed his 70 year alumni this past spring. Don was united in marriage to Glenis Holtgrewe on June 16, 1948. To this marriage two sons were born. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served on the Church Board and was a member of the church choir and church quartet, St. John’s (McWilliams) Cemetery Board. Don was a past president and board member of Otoe County Farm Bureau, former UCT member, past member of Fire District Board, served on District 73 country school board where he attended first through eighth grade. Don’s hobbies were collecting coins and playing cards. He enjoyed square dancing, and traveling the United States. He also coached pint, peewee and midget summer baseball. Due to ill health Don entered the Ambassador care facility in Nebraska City and it is there that on Saturday, August 2, 2014 he passed away having reached the age of 87 years 11 months and two days. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don is survived by his wife Glenis of Talmage; two sons, Gerald Hopp and wife Kathy of Falls City, Neb.; Mark Hopp and wife Julie of Dunbar, Neb.; four grandsons Andrew Hopp and wife Stephanie of Gretna, Neb.; Christopher Hopp of Omaha, Neb.; Brian Hopp and wife Jamie of Lincoln, Neb.; and David Hopp and Fiancee’ Ally of Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren Ethan Hopp, Ashleigh Hopp, Alaina Hopp, and Lincoln Hopp; brother-inlaw Virgil Holtgrewe and wife Carol of Estes Park, Colo.; their daughters Claire Holtgrewe and Janet Ostrom and husband Terry, and Janet’s children Tyler and Lance Ostrom, other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be given to American Parkinson Disease Association and Talmage Fire & Rescue. Charitable donations may be made in Donald’s memory to the following organization: American Parkinson  Disease Association,, 720 Harrison Ave., Suite 707, Boston, MA 02118; Telephone: (617) 638-8466 A funeral service for Donald Hopp will be held Friday, August 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ in Talmage. Burial will follow the service at the St. John’s (McWilliams) Cemetery near Talmage. Visitation will be Thursday, August 7, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Hall Funeral Chapel of Auburn, Neb. is in charge of arrangements for Donald H.
