Unbeaten Bulldog Boys Seek Third Straight State Title
The Bulldogs finished off the 2020-21 regular season with a 74-37 victory over Johnson-County Central to complete an unbeaten regular season. Auburn’s goal to win a third straight Class C-1 State Championship in boys basketball started to ramp up on Tuesday, February 23 against Syracuse in the first round of subdistrict basketball.
Auburn’s first subdistrict opponent, Syracuse, was a familiar one. The two teams had played just two weeks earlier, with the Bulldogs leaving Syracuse with a 78-31 victory. Although the Rockets switched up their strategy of defending the Bulldogs, the outcome was much the same.
Senior Daniel Frary sparked the Bulldogs in the first half scoring 8 early points, leading to a 13-0 Auburn advantage midway through the first period. Fellow senior Cam Binder finished off the first quarter knocking down four straight three-pointers giving Auburn a 27-5 lead after one quarter of play. Auburn would continue to dominate in the second half, taking a 47-10 lead into halftime.
