Magnolia Metal Juniors Hold Crete to One Hit in 8-0 Romp; Next Lose Three Away Games

Magnolia Metal Juniors American Legion baseball team takes a 7-12 season record into its regular season finale Tuesday, July 9 with Ashland. Tuesday night, July 2 the Juniors blanked Crete 8-0 in 5 innings and allowed a single hit. Thursday afternoon, July 4 Magnolia Metal Juniors lost a 9-10 walk-off decision at Nebraska City. The Juniors dropped a 4-12 five-inning tilt early Saturday afternoon, July 6 at Omaha Roncalli. The week concluded Sunday afternoon, July 7 with a 5-7 setback at Wahoo. Area tournament play opens Friday, July 12.

CRETE GAME

Magnolia Metal Juniors scored 4 times in the second inning adding 3 in the third. The Juniors ended the night with 9 hits also swiping 8 bases. Hits: Tye Ommert 3; Connor Clark and Nic Knudson 2 each; and Marcus Buitrago-Hudson and Stetson Neiman. Runs: Ommert 3; Buitrago-Hudson and Cayden Criger 2 apiece and Knudson. RBI: Connor Clark and Ommert 2 each; and Buitrago-Hudson and Neiman. Walks: Criger 2; and Kael Clark and Ommert. Steals: Knudson and Ommert 3 apiece; and Connor Clark and Kael Clark. Buitrago-Hudson reached base on a Crete error. Kael Clark was hit by a pitch. Turning a double play were Kael Clark and Criger. Magnolia Metal Juniors left 6 baserunners. Knudson earned the victory. Over 5 innings he allowed a double by Hunter Betts, walking 1 and striking out 2. Lucas Lenhoff was the losing pitcher for Crete. He gave up 6 hits in 3 innings; 7 runs, 3 of which were earned; walking 4 and striking out 6. Cason Tucker pitched the final one-and twothirds innings. He surrendered 3 hits and an unearned run, striking out 2.
