The road to the 2021 NSAA state basketball championships continues to shorten for the Auburn boys basketball team. After claiming the Class C-1 state championship the last two seasons, Auburn made it through the first three weeks of January without a loss. The Bulldogs started last week with a 11-0 record, with Falls City Sacred Heart and Nebraska City up next.

On Tuesday, January 19, the Bulldogs traveled to Falls City to face the Sacred Heart Irish. Last season Auburn added Sacred Heart to the schedule for the first time, and the Bulldogs pulled out the win 45-31 at home. Both teams went on to win the state championship in their respective classes.

This month in Falls City, junior Ryan Binder started off the game with a steal and a layup and foul. Senior Daniel Frary followed with the next four Auburn points before brothers Cam and Maverick Binder hit back-to-back three pointers. In the final 40 seconds of the opening period, senior Cade Patzel knocked down a corner three, then secured a rebound on the defensive end, which led to a layup by Frary as time expired. Auburn led the Irish 24-10 after the first.
