Eagles Fly Into D-2 Finals with 58-44 Win at Humphrey St. Francis

Will Play Mullen Nov. 19 for Championship

The Johnson-Brock Eagles are heading to Memorial Stadium Monday morning, Nov. 19. The 12-0 Eagles will play 12-0 Mullen at 10:15 a.m. in the Class D-2 championship game. Monday night, Nov. 12, Johnson-Brock reached the title game winning 58-44 at Humphrey St. Francis. The Eagles broke a 28-28 tie with nine minutes left in the third quarter outscoring the Flyers 30-16 the rest of the way. The home team ended its season 11-1. Mullen advanced by defeating Lawrence-Nelson 36-24. It will be Johnson-Brock’s first trip to the championship contest. The Eagles are the first Nemaha County high school football team to play for a state title since Auburn won Class C-1 in 2006. Johnson-Brock’s semifinal win evened its postseason record at 12-12 in its 13th time in the state playoffs. Mullen captured titles in Class D-1 in 1990 and 1998 and Class D-2 in 2003. It was D-2 runner-up in 2004. In 28 years in the state playoffs, the Broncos are 43-23. Scoring by Quarters: Johnson-Brock 6-22-22-8--58 Humphrey St. Francis 8-12-24-0--44
