Eagles Boys Beat Sterling, Lose to Irish in Subdistricts Before Defeating Mead to Qualify for State Tourney
The Johnson-Brock boys basketball team opened the Class D2-1 subdistrict tournament at Auburn with a 67-48 victory over Sterling.
Sterling actually led during the first quarter before the Eagles went on top with about a minute remaining. The Jets scored primarily from the outside while Johnson-Brock converted shots closer to the hoop. The Eagles led 14-10 after one period.
In quarter two, Johnson-Brock’s defensive pressure forced some Jets turnovers and the Eagles took a 21-13 lead late in the second period before Sterling Coach Andy Saathoff called a timeout in an attempt to settle down his squad. The first half ended with Johnson-Brock leading 29-22.
Kaden Glynn of the Eagles got on track offensively in quarter three as Johnson-Brock scored 22 points, including a number from Glynn. The Eagles led 51-34 at the end of three.
