Bulldogs Keep the Winning Streak Going

By Cooper Weeks

The Auburn Bulldogs started off the 2020-21 basketball season with two lopsided victories over Weeping Water and Elmwood-Murdock. Though the Bulldogs impressed in the opening week of basketball, they had yet to face a team with postseason hopes, with their first two opponents currently holding a combined 1-10 record. That sentiment would change though when the Bulldogs faced two undefeated teams on back-to-back days last week.

The first leg of Auburn’s busy weekend would come against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Thursday, December 17. With the two schools being around 180 miles apart from each other, the teams agreed to play the game at Fremont High School, roughly halfway between the towns. The Bulldogs of HLHF came into the game with a 4-0 record compared to Auburn’s 2-0 record. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family won the Class D2 state championship in 2019 just a couple of hours after Cam Binder hit a last second shot to secure Auburn’s first ever state championship in basketball. Last season the Bulldogs of HLHF placed third in the NSAA state basketball championships and finished with a 26-4 record.
