Bulldogs Defeat Irish 45-31 in Battle of Unbeatens

The Auburn Bulldogs started the 2019-20 season already hailed as the #1 team in Class C-1, and with an undefeated record so far, they have remained the #1 rated team in the class every single week. While the Bulldogs have faced their share of worthy opponents including Class D-1 #3 Laurel-Concord Coleridge, Class C-2 #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic, and then unbeaten Mound City, Missouri, the Bulldogs went into each one of those games with something that their opponent didn’t: a #1 rating.

That wasn’t the case January 21, when Auburn hosted Class D-2 #1 Falls City Sacred Heart to a #1 showdown in Auburn. The matchup between the two schools happened for the first time that Tuesday in a packed Auburn High School gym. The Irish of Falls City Sacred Heart entered the game with a 14-0 record compared to Auburn’s 13-0 mark at the time. The Irish are known for their excellence in basketball, led by coach Doug Goltz, who has won nine state championships during his time at Sacred Heart.
