Bulldogs Champs in NWU Holiday Tourney After Three Wins

Auburn boys basketball team claimed the 2018 Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday Tournament championship with wins over Walthill, Nebraska Christian, and Humphrey St. Francis. The undefeated Bulldogs entered the tournament with a 6-0 record, with recent victories over conference opponents Freeman, and Yutan. This is the first time that Auburn has competed in the eight-team tournament, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University. Other teams in the tourney included Thayer Central, Wymore Southern, Tekamah Herman, and Parkview Christian.

78-46 Win Over Walthill

In the first round of the tournament on Thursday, December 27, Auburn faced off against the Walthill Bluejays. After allowing a three pointer seconds after tip-off, the Bulldogs broke through Walthill’s full court press, and went on a 23-7 run in the first quarter. Cameron Binder who ended the quarter with 11 points, would finish with a career high 34 points.

The Bulldogs continued to stretch their lead in the following quarters and reached a comfortable lead as the game proceeded, including eight fourth quarter points from Brody Darnell. The Bulldogs defeated Walthill 78-46, and advanced to the next round of the tournament.
