“I knew it had to be a three”
That is what was going through Cam Binder’s mind as he set up for the final offensive possession of his sophomore season. Down two points, in the final moments of the Class C-1 state championship, Binder’s mentality mirrored Auburn’s state tournament run: not settling for “enough”, but instead taking everything.
Instead of attempting to tie North Bend Central with a safer shot attempt as regulation ended, a 24 foot step back three from Binder swooshed through the hoop, and gave Auburn the go ahead basket to win the 2019 Class C-1 state title, the first championship in school history.
