In 2006, the Auburn Bulldogs claimed their first state championship in football. Since then, the Bulldogs have yet to reach similar heights, with an absence of a playoff victory since the championship season. Auburn has made the playoffs after 2006, most recently in 2018, but have had no luck in the opening round. On Friday, October 30, the Bulldogs had a chance to change that against Battle Creek in a first round playoff game at home.

After receiving the opening kick, Auburn used a combination of its three leading rushers — Brody Darnell, Ryan Dixon, and Connor Clark — to string together a 9-play, 79-yard touchdown drive.

The Bulldogs have relied on big plays from their playmakers to score for much of the year, but against the Braves of Battle Creek, long drives, like the opening one, came easy to Auburn. Battle Creek would strike back with a score of their own, tying the game at 7-7 in the final minute of the first quarter. But that only prompted a 12-play, 6 minute Bulldog drive capped off by a 27-yard receiving touchdown by Daniel Frary. Frary would use his 6’5” frame to rise above defenders and grab the touchdown pass on a 3rd and 16. Frary’s leap and snag gave the Bulldogs a 13-7 lead at the halftime break.
