Bulldog Softball Team Goes 1-2 in 2018 Class C State Tournament

Auburn softball finished their season at the highest stage, in the NSAA state softball tournament in Hastings. The district champion Bulldogs were ranked #5 in class C-1, and finished the tournament 1-2. On Thursday, October 9, the Bulldogs opened their third straight state tournament appearance against #4 Bishop Neumann. The two teams faced off earlier this year in the finals of the Auburn tournament. Bishop Neumann took the game 1-0 over Auburn. While neither team scored,

Bishop Neumann held control of the contest in the first three innings. Apart from the second inning, where Auburn pitcher Kylie Allen struck out all three Cavalier batters, Neumann got multiple batters on base, including a runner reaching third base in three of the early innings. Allen, who struck out 11 batters, and the Bulldogs managed to escape the early Cavalier threats, until the fifth inning, where five Cavaliers reached base. A single to left scored the first point of the game for Bishop Neumann, and a double later on in the inning scored three more runners. Junior Maddie Reiman answered in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run, giving Auburn their first run of the tournament, and shortening Bishop Neumann’s lead to 3, at 4-1. The solo shot was Reiman’s first career home run.
