Auburn Soccer Team Beats Pioneers in 2-1 Shootout

The Auburn High School Girls Soccer Team beat visiting Nebraska City 2-1 in a shootout on April 27. The victory improved the Bulldogs record to 3-6, while the Pioneers fell to 1-11.

Coach Jackson Weeks said, “We got off to a bit of a slow start and gave up a goal very late in the first half [less than seven seconds before halftime]. I thought that our girls did a great job responding and came out with a lot of enthusiasm in the second half. We did a much better job of winning 50/50 balls and got better touches out of the middle.

He added, “We doubled the number of quality shots on goal in the first four minutes of the second half, which was huge for us. Carly Gardner was then able to put one in early in the second half.

“I was really proud of how our girls competed down the stretch. We are a little bit banged up but we’ve had girls step up and play well in some positions that they haven’t played before.

“Harmony Franke has stepped up big time for us at the keeper position. She hadn’t ever played that spot before and has stepped in for Dilan Perry who was injured in the Omaha Concordia game. Harmony has done a fantastic job at that spot for us.
