WANDA CLARE (NORRIS) MILLER

Our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Wanda Clare (Norris) Miller passed away January 23, 2017, in Battleground, Washington, at the age of 87. Wanda, one of three children of Albert Leland Norris and Lulu Rebecca (Graham) Norris, was born on June 4, 1929, in Clayton, Kansas. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1947, and attended Peru State College. On August 21, 1948, she united in marriage to James Peery Miller at the Christian Church in Auburn, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Jamie and Susan. Wanda and Jim lived in eight different states but spent 27 years in Ames, Iowa. While in Ames they owned and operated Charco’s Drive-Inn and started J.P. Miller Operations, which was in charge of 18 Kentucky Fried Chicken stores throughout Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. They were the first to operate a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Iowa. Wanda was baptized with Jim at the First Christian Church in Slater, Mo. They were members of Apache Wells Community Church in Mesa, Arizona. She was a member of Apache Junction American Legion Auxiliary, The Eastern Star, and also served as the Mesa Daughters of the Nile President in 1991. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, worldwide travel, and playing cards with her family and friends. She especially adored watching her grandchildren playing their many sports. In addition to her parents and husband Jim, Wanda was preceded in death by her son James Lee, daughter Rebecca Donn, infant son, Sister Joyce and Brother Lee. She is survived by daughters Jamie (Michael) Flatebo of La Center, Wash., Susan Miller (Stacy Anderson) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Niece Judy Heidzig, Nephew Barry Long, eight grandchildren of Washington, Montana, Utah and Louisiana, and two Great Grandchildren. Graveside services will be held June 3rd at 12:00 noon at Sheridan Cemetery near Auburn.
