VIOLA ELIZABETH HAHN

1923-2019

Viola Elizabeth Hahn, 96, formerly of Johnson, Nebraska was born on October 11, 1923, in rural Johnson, Nebraska to Louie Adolph and Eda Dorothy (Hahn) Goering. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Johnson and later confirmed by Rev. Riensche on April 10, 1938. Viola attended East Bulah country school in Johnson County through the 8th grade.

She met Arnold Hahn when she was 17 years old. They lived only one and a half miles from each other and he was the only boy she ever dated. On October 11, 1946, Viola was united in marriage to Arnold at Zion Lutheran Church. To this union three sons: Don, Neal and Randall were born. The couple raised their family on a farm near Johnson where Viola was a homemaker. After moving to Johnson, she worked at Lampe’s Variety Store, Hopp’s Café and later when it became Bergmann’s Café. Viola also cleaned for a few people in Johnson and sat desk for the Casey-Witzenburg-Hall Funeral Home.

She was a past member of the Johnson Extension Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Viola loved cooking and collecting recipe books. She and Arnold had season tickets to Nebraska basketball games and she still loved watching sports on TV. Playing cards with neighbors and social gatherings on the farm created a lot of memories for the family.

She was very passionate about her family. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. Viola remained very sharp, until hours before her death, and was able to visit with anyone and everyone who had time to share. Her kindness, generosity, and ability to listen will be missed.

Viola passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, Nebraska having reached the age of 96 years, two months and 18 days. Viola was a resident of Good Samaritan for the last six years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, son Don and a brother LaVerne (Ida) Goering.
