SUSAN KAY MARBURGER
Susan Kay Marburger, 76, loving mother of four was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. Susan was born on November 24, 1945 at the Oakland Community Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska to Myron and Adelyn (Johnson) Jacobson. She was raised on the family farm outside Oakland along with her older brother, Wayne. As a child, she enjoyed helping her father with the cattle, cooking with her mother, and raising kittens in the loft of the hay barn.
She began her schooling at the District 17 Country School which she attended through the 8th grade. She then continued her education at Oakland High School and graduated with the class of 1964. Throughout her school years she was active in band, chorus, pep club, a member of the newspaper staff, and a drum majorette. Susan was a leader in Girl Scouts, an honored Queen of Job’s Daughters, and a children’s leader and pianist for West Side Methodist Church. She was also a 9 year member of 4-H showing cattle, swine, photography, baking, and won first place at Ak-sar-ben with her sewing and textile design entries. After high school, she attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was a sister of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1968 majoring in Home Economics with a minor in Fashion Design.
On March 31, 1968, Susan was united in marriage to John Lewis Marburger in Fremont, Nebraska. To this union four children: Brett, Andrea, Erica, and Kent were born.
In the 1970’s, Susan and John made their home in Garden City, Kansas and later in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. During that time, Susan was a fashion clothing buyer for Miller & Paine, Macy’s, and Adler’s. In 1979, Susan and John moved to Humboldt, Nebr. to manage Marburger Fabrication. Susan was an accountant for the business before becoming a homemaker and raising her four children. For many years, she was a seamstress, sold Premier Design Jewelry, and was a 4-H Judge for numerous counties and the State Fair. Susan remained active in the local bridge club and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter DU in Omaha, Nebraska.
Susan passed away at CHI St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln, Nebr. from her lifelong battle with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and complications from pneumonia having reached the earthly age of 76 years, three months, and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Wayne Jacobson.
Susan is survived by son Brett Marburger and wife Crystal of Platte Center, Neb.; daughter Andrea Marburger of Talmage, Neb.; daughter Erica Valdez and husband Michael of Nebraska City, Neb.; son Kent Marburger and wife Shana of Talmage; grandchildren: Corbin Thompson, Risah Valdez, Arya Marburger, Liam Marburger, and Owen Marburger; sister-in-law Judy Adams of Lincoln, Neb.; Aunt Elaine Johnson of Bellevue, Neb.; special friend Miriam Harder of Bellevue, and other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Celebration of Life services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Auburn Berean Church in Auburn, Nebr. with Pastor Allen Harder officiating. Susie Hogrefe, pianist, accompanied congregational hymns, “How Great Thou Art”, “It is Well With My Soul” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”
Pallbearers were Chris Jacobson, Craig Jacobson, Chuck Sabotka, Corbin Thompson, Michael Valdez, Logan Jacobson, Rick Johnson and Bruce Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Maralee Sabotka, Stephanie Jacobson, Michele Jacobson, Bailee Jacobson, Madison Sabotka and Georgia Jacobson.
Interment was at 3:30 p.m. in the West Side Cemetery, rural Oakland, Nebr. Services were entrusted to Wherry Mortuary, Humboldt, Nebraska.
