RUTH (McCULLOUGH) GENTERT

1930-2019

Ruth Alene McCullough, one of five children of Lee and Helen (Holmes) McCullough, was born June 8, 1930 in Ansley, Nebraska. She attended school in Ansley, graduating from high school in 1948.

On December 12, 1948 Ruth was united in marriage to Raymond L. “Pete” Gentert in Mason City, Nebraska. They lived in Holstein, Nebraska until moving to Nemaha County in southeast Nebraska in 1950. Their union would be blessed with six children: Robert, Roger, Raylene, Randall, Rebecca, and Rhonda.

In addition to running the household and raising the children, Ruth was very involved with Pete milking their dairy cows and performing the chores that went along with the dairy. She was a member of the Brownville Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved in other church functions. Ruth was also a 4-H Leader as her children went through the program.

After Raymond passed on November 11, 2003 Ruth continued to live on the farm near Brownville for many years. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, Nebraska in September of 2019. She passed away at Good Sam on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 12 days. In addition to her husband and her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her son Randall Lee, 3 brothers, 1 sister, and great-granddaughter Jayden Dawn Joy.

Ruth is survived by her children and their spouses Robert and Kathy Gentert of Brownville; Roger and Sharon Gentert of Wendell, Idaho; Raylene and Jack Dunn of Stella; Rebecca and Tom Fousek of McLouth, Kansas; Rhonda and Marlin Joy of Stella; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law Lois Whitney of Hastings; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, October 29, 10:30 a.m. at the Brownville Christian Church. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 30, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00. Ruth’s body will be cremated following the service, and private family burial of ashes will be held later at Walnut Grove Cemetery at Brownville.

Memorials are suggested to the Brownville Christian Church.
