ROBERTA JANE (APPLEGATE) HENNING

1928-2023

Roberta Jane (Applegate) Henning, 95, formerly of Peru was born on April 20,1928, in Peru, Nebraska to Everett Earl and Desta Ladema (Allgood) Applegate. She was raised in Peru where she received her schooling and graduated at the top of her class from Peru Prep High School. On May 27, 1946, Jane was united in marriage to Charles Henning in Hiawatha, Kansas. Together they raised 10 children and resided on the family farm in rural Peru for 73 years. Jane was a member of the Christian Church in Peru, Auburn Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, and was past State Commander of the Nebraska DAVA. Charles and Jane were also very proud of their volunteer work at the VA Hospitals in Lincoln and Omaha for 27 years.

Jane passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Hillcrest Silver Ridge Nursing Home in Gretna, Nebraska, having reached the earthly age of ninety-five years and seven days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles, son Gary, grandson Daniel Eugene Henning, brothers: Earl, Marion, Stacy, Robert, and Sidney; sisters: Vyril Adams, Ellen Allgood, Ruth Gfeller, and Margaret Mangnall.

Jane is survived by her sons: Bruce Henning of Phoenix, AZ; Alan (Charlotte) Henning of Wichita, KS; Fritz (Shawn) Henning of Wichita, KS; Larry (Cindy) Henning of Springfield, NE; John (Jody) Henning of Lincoln, NE; Eric (Elizabeth) Henning of Chicago, IL; daughters Judy (Robert) Peterson of Carter Lake, IA; Janice (Franklin) Smith of Lincoln, NE; Jodie (David) Ferguson of Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law Carol Henning of Cedar Rapids, IA; 23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; brothers-inlaw: Johnilee Henning of Beatrice, NE; Jerry (Barbara) Henning of St. Louis, MO; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at The Hall Funeral Chapel, 707 15th Street in Auburn, Nebraska with Pastor Nate Powell officiating. A Graveside Committal Service was held at 2:30 p.m. at The Omaha National Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
