ROBERT C. HARKINS

1926-2017

Robert C. Harkins, 91, of Lincoln died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017. He was born March 2, 1926 at Johnson, Nebraska, son of Harvey and Fern (Wagner) Harkins. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1943 and joined the U.S. Navy. Harkins proudly served on board the USS Lenawee during World War II. On Nov. 19, 1949 he was united in marriage to Lois Ream of Dakota City. They settled in Harkins’ hometown of Johnson where he became the rural mail carrier. To this union a son, Richard and a daughter, Sharon were born. After retiring, the Harkins’ spent their winters in Bella Vista, Ark. and Mission, Texas and traveling. In 2000 they moved to Lincoln. Lois Harkins died in 2015. Surviving is his daughter, Sharon of Walton; sister, JoAnn Snyder of Washburn, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sally Ream of Sioux Falls, S.D; and nephews and nieces. Besides his wife, Harkins was preceded in death by his son, Richard. Graveside services and burial of ashes will be held Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Cemetery. It will be followed by a celebration of life gathering from noon to 2 p.m. Memorials to the family’s choice.
