Robert Charles Harkins, 91, of Lincoln, passed away December 21, 2017. Bob was born March 2, 1926, in Johnson, Nebraska, to Harvey and Fern (Wagner) Harkins. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1943 and joined the Navy. He proudly served on board the USS Lenawee during WWII. On November 13, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lois Ream of Dakota City. They settled in Bob’s hometown of Johnson where Bob became the rural mail carrier. In 1950 their son, Richard, was born followed by their daughter, Sharon, in 1954. After retiring, Bob and Lois spent their winters in Bella Vista, Ark., and Mission, Texas, and traveling. In 2000 they moved to Lincoln. Lois passed away in 2015. Robert is survived by his daughter, Sharon of Walton; sister, JoAnn Snyder of Washburn, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sally Ream of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nephews, Rick Snyder, Scott Ream and Kris Ream; nieces, Jacqueline Snyder and Kristene Watkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; son, Richard; brothers-in-law, Ralph Snyder and John Ream. Cremation. Graveside services in the Johnson Cemetery and a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date in the spring.
