RICHARD “DICK” FILBRANDT

1941-2019

Richard Lee Filbrandt was born March 16, 1941 in Wahoo, Nebraska. He was one of six children of Raymond and Jennie (Leitgeb) Filbrandt. Dick, as he was known, grew up and attended school in Wahoo, where he graduated from Wahoo High School in 1959.

Dick was united in marriage to Betty Jean Striggow on July 16, 1961 at the Presbyterian Church in Wahoo, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two children: Jeff and Jodee. They lived in Wahoo and Lincoln, before moving to Auburn in 1965.

Throughout his life, Dick had many jobs, he was an auto mechanic, brick layer, farmer, worked in construction, was a truck driver, and did body and fender repair. He owned the D & D Body Shop with his brother-in-law Daryl Striggow for many years, and then worked at Meyers Body Shop in Syracuse for 34 years before retiring.

Dick was a member of the Jaycees, Eagles Club, Newcomers, and Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed collecting depression glass, and in his spare time loved woodworking and gardening, which earned he and Betty the Nemaha County Outstanding Garden Award.

Due to his health, Dick moved to the Waterford at Wilderness Hills Memory Care in Lincoln. It was there that he passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019, having reached the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and James, sister and brother-inlaw Rose Ann and Ed Prohaska, grandson Jarad Dettmann, and step-great-granddaughter Lucy Bowlsby.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Kathy Filbrandt of Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law Jodee and Max Stone of Palacios, Texas; grandchildren Ryan and wife Daniela Filbrandt, Ashley and wife Natalie Bohn; great-grandchildren Mateo and Rio Filbrandt; step-grandchildren Courtney and husband Jeremy Bowlsby, Kaylee McDole, Kayte Shreve; step-great-grandchildren Penelope and Jadie Bowlsby, Kenlee McDole; sister Nancy (James) Boyles of Wahoo; brother Michael (Dawn) Filbrandt of Elkhorn; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service, with Revs. Penny Shulz and Carla Patterson officiating, was Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
