RENA E. HITCH

Rena E. Hitch, 88, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island. Rena was born June 27, 1928, at a farm southeast of Roseland, to Charles and Frankie (Frazier) Van Matre. Rena graduated from Roseland High School and Kansas City Secretarial School. She married Arthur H. Hitch, Jr. on March 15, 1947, in Seneca, Kansas. They resided in Auburn and Bella Vista, Arkansas, before returning to Seward and Grand Island. Survivors include two sons, Ron (Mary) Hitch of Grand Island, and Harold Hitch and special friend, Sally, of Peru; a daughter Mary and Roger Lewis of Bennington; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and many, many more friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Hitch, Jr., in 2005, three sisters, two brothers, and her parents. Rena was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and First-Faith Methodist Church in Grand Island. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, next to her husband, Arthur. Memorials may be directed to local American Legion Auxiliary Programs.
