MICHAEL PAUL ARMSTRONG

1982-2020

Michael Paul Armstrong, son of James and Lori (Shores) Armstrong, was born January 5, 1982 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He started school in a rural school near Brock, Nebraska, attended Norris Public School, and graduated from Auburn High School in 2001.

After graduation Mike joined the U. S. Army. During his service he was stationed in Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait. After his discharge Mike returned to Nebraska and attended ITT Technical Institute in Omaha studying computer drafting and graphic design.

On July 28, 2008 Michael married Jill Garcia in a ceremony at Rotary Lake in Auburn. After several years together they were divorced but remained friends.

Mike worked for many years for Smart Chicken where he climbed the ranks to Operations Manager.

An official member of the Missouri River Rats, Michael was an outdoorsman. He fished, hunted, and camped with friends and family on the Missouri. He loved to be with family and had a special love for his kids and attending their activities.

Mike was admitted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He passed away there, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the age of 38 years, 9 months, and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his father Jim, Grandma and Grandpa Mahser, grandparents Roberta Allgood and Carl Armstrong, uncle and aunt Mike Shores and Carol Borgman, and step-uncle John Mahser.

Among those left to remember Michael’s fun ways include his mother Lori Shores of Ohiowa, Neb.; children Caitlyn Longfellow-Armstrong and her mother Crystal; Nicholas Garcia, James Armstrong, and Makenna Armstrong and their mother Jill; Abby Kite; sister Ali Henry of Clanton, Alabama; brother Luke Henry of Seward, Neb.; aunts and uncles Wes and Linda Scherer of Shell Knob, Missouri; Suzanne and Kenny Belcher of Unadilla; Barbara and Pete Peterson of DeWitt; Mary and Del Cramm of Lincoln; Diane and Mark Watton of Elmwood; step-aunts and -uncle Jeanne, Dale, and Jodi Mahser; cousins Cory Cramm and Christina (Mason) Mailahn; other relatives and many friends.

Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Lucas Henry. Special music was played and honorary bearers were Brandon Lotter, James Longfellow, Jon Thomas, Evan Keithley, Mark Longfellow, Nick Breazile, Ryan Vasa, Luke Henry, and Alicia Denney. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post #23 of Auburn and the Nebraska Army National Guard Honors Detail.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
