MARGARET I. HOLDER

1928-2016
 
Margaret Irene (Harms) Holder, 88, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born in rural Humboldt on May 19, 1928 to George Herman and Violet Luella (Babcock) Harms. In 1929, Violet’s brothers Wayne and Robert Babcock came to make their home with the Harms family after the death of their parents.
 
Margaret attended grade school at District 105 and 9th through 11th grade at Bratton Union High School. In 1945, her father had a farm sale and she transferred to Humboldt High School graduating with the class of 1946. While finishing high school, Margaret lived in Humboldt with Goldie Ogle. After graduation, Margaret stayed with her parents on a farm near Verdon and helped with farm work as Wayne and Robert were drafted into the Army.
 
On April 25, 1950, Margaret was united in marriage to Donald Holder. To this union two sons Rodney and Scott were born. The couple started their married life farming Northwest of Verdon. In July of 1952, Don was drafted into the Army. Margaret finished the farm year with the help of her dad. In May of 1954, the couple moved from Colorado Springs, Colorado where Don had been stationed back to Humboldt to make their home. Margaret was a lifelong care taker and mother.
 
Whether it was helping on the farm or at home, she always put her family’s needs before her own.
 
Margaret enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, embroidering, and flowers. She worked with her son Scott in his Green House for 10 years and helped in the flower division of the Richardson County Fair for several years. Margaret was a charter member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, member of Rural Letter Carrier Auxiliary, worked on Ward II Election Board for several years, helped place and take down flags on Memorial Day, and was a long time member of The Humboldt Christian Church.
 
Margaret passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt having reached the age of 88 years, five months, and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son Rodney, a sister Luella Withers, and uncles Wayne and Robert Babcock.
 
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Don Holder of Humboldt; son Scott Holder and his wife Nancy of Fort Calhoun, Neb.; granddaughters: Kristen and Kayla Holder of Fort Calhoun; nephew Roger Withers and his wife Glenna of Stella, Neb.; great-nephews Lee and Lyn Withers of Stella; and many relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, at The Christian Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.
 
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary.
 
Interment will be at the Humboldt Cemetery.
 
Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
