LLOYD HOFFART

1928-2019

Lloyd Michael Hoffart was born April 9, 1928 to Carl Henry and Alice (Hladik) Hoffart on his grandparents’ farm near the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The youngest of two children, Lloyd grew up and attended school in Plainview, Nebraska.

After high school Lloyd enlisted in the United States Army. Stationed in Japan, he had experience with electronics while in the military. After his discharge Lloyd returned to Plainview. He attended school for radio and television repair.

On July 24, 1955 Lloyd was united in marriage to Raedith Joyce Haskins in the Plainview Baptist Church. They moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1958 and were blessed with three children: Alan, Dave, and Michelle.

Lloyd and Rae ran a radio and television business out of their home for many years. After retiring from the business, Lloyd had various jobs. He and Rae ran a Montgomery Ward Catalog store, Lloyd acquired his license to sell insurance and securities, and he worked at Auburn Consolidated Industries. In addition to his paying jobs, Lloyd was always there for anyone who needed help. He called his Toyota pickup his “rescue wagon”.

Lloyd was a longtime member of the New Life Church in Auburn. In his younger years he loved to go roller skating with Rae. He enjoyed camping with family or a group of friends, and the couple spent many nights playing various card games with friends.

Shortly after Rae’s passing in 2016 Lloyd moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there he passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 16 days. In addition to Rae and his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his son Alan Michael and sister Lorraine.

Lloyd is survived by his son Dave of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Michael O’Neil of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren Angela Marie Hoffart, Justin Patric O’Neil, and Jacob Michael O’Neil; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Monday, September 30, 2019 at New Life Church in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Mike Mattox. Sandra Davis was accompanist for duets by Angela Hoffart and Teresa Moberly.

Casket bearers were Dave Hoffart, Justin O’Neil, Jacob O’Neil, Marvin Shimmel, Chris Shimmel, and Nick Shimmel. Bob Eckhoff, Butch Eckhoff, Rob Keating, and Bill Staub were honorary bearers. Burial was in Sheridan Cemetery.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn.
