LARRY JAMES GREEN

1947-2019

Larry James Green, son of James (Jim) G. and Mavis M. (Schuette) Green, was born December 10, 1947, in Auburn, Nebraska. Larry passed away in his home in Miramar Beach, Florida, on January 5, 2019.

Larry was one of three children. He graduated in 1966 from Brock Public School. He attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln for one year and transferred to Peru State College (PSC) in 1971 receiving a degree in business administration. Larry was a member of the PSC basketball team and earned the nickname the “Jolly Green Giant.”

Larry joined the PSC Foundation Board of Directors in 2002, served on the Foundation’s Executive Committee from 2005-2008, and again from 2013-2019. In 2015, he was elected Chairman of the Foundation and continued in that role until his death.

Larry was notified in October 2018 that the Nebraska State College System had awarded him with the Peru State College Distinguished Service Award. This Award is the highest honor Peru State can bestow on an alumnus. It will be awarded posthumously in the spring.

Larry married Norma Sue Stallcup on January 26, 1980. Larry and Sue made their home in Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Colorado, and Florida while he was in the manufacturing business.

In 1980 Larry became the Senior Vice President of Constar International. In 1994 he was recruited to serve as President of the Ball Plastic Container Operations, a Fortune 500 company. He retired in 2011 after he led an overall increase in sales for Ball from $300 million to more than $3 billion.

He is predeceased by his parents (Jim, August 2012 and Mavis, May 2015) and Sue’s parents (Mac L. Stallcup, January 1992 and Millie (Keeling) Stallcup, January 2016).

Those surviving are: wife, Sue of Miramar Beach, Fla.; son, Lew Brownfield of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Leigh Anne Brownfield, of Miramar Beach, Fla.; sister, Judy Grotrian and husband Charles of Nebraska City, Neb.; and sister, Mary Jane Green, of Syracuse, Neb.; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

A private service is being planned by the family for the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in Larry’s memory to the Green Family Scholarship: Peru State College Foundation, PO Box 10, Peru, NE 68421.
