KENNETH V. HARMON

Kenneth Virgil Harmon, son of John R. and Blanche (Keedy) Harmon was born July 6, 1943 at Bellevue Maternity home in Niskayuna, New York. Ken was the youngest of three children. Ken’s dad was in the Army Signal Corps during World War II thus moving the family to Schenectady, New York and later to Auburn, Nebraska.

Ken attended school in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School in 1962. When Ken was in second grade he contracted polio. Ken enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1961 and received an honorable discharge in 1966. On April 29, 1973 Ken was united in marriage to Karen Gerdes at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Stone Church), in Auburn. One son was born to this marriage. Ken and Karen moved to Denver, Colorado in 1973. Ken worked for Coors brewery 27 years and retired December 2004.

Ken bowled on several leagues, hunted, played softball on a Coors morning league, enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, family camping trips, played pool on the Old Farts league and going to Port Aransas, Texas on vacation with great friends Ken, Di, Alisha and Nick. After retiring, Ken attended NASCAR races in Las Vegas and made trips with Karen, Di and Ken. Ken loved to play cards and loved sports, especially his Nebraska Huskers. Ken was a member of the ELKS. In 2005, they purchased their summer retirement home at Van’s Lakeview, Lake McConaughy. Ken loved to catfish, being at the lake and their golf cart was painted red.

Ken had a stroke in April 2017. His health declined and he passed away at his home on January 16, 2020 having reached the age of 76 years, 6 months and 10 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-inlaw, and brothers-in-law Ivan Eden and Marvin Jeanneret. He leaves behind his wife Karen of 46 years, son Kevin of Denver; four grandchildren: Deric Harmon of Denver; Kevin Harmon Jr. and Rylan Harmon of Orlando, Florida; and Laileonna (Lonna) of Denver. Siblings: Marietta Eden of Denver and Marilyn Jeanneret of Nebraska City, Nebraska, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy and Dallas McMann of Auburn. Nephews: Allan (Tammy) Jeanneret; Dennis (Karen) Eden and Tim (Janelle) Mc-Mann. Nieces: Donna Peterson; Gail (Terry) Zimmerman and Kim (Nathan) Beger. Eight great-nephews and one great-niece, other relatives and many, many friends.

A Memorial Service was held in Denver, Colorado on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the ELKS Lodge #2227.

Honorary pallbearers are Dave Hatfield, Ken Manzanares, Bob Overgaurd, Kirk Fitch, Dennis Eden, Allan Jeanneret and Tim McMann.

Honorary flower girls are Donna Peterson, Gail Jeanneret, Kim Beger and Diane Manzanares.

Burial will be at the Sheridan-West Cemetery near Auburn at a later date.
