Keith J. Volkmer, age 79 of Auburn, Nebraska passed away on July 18, 2018 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Auburn. Keith John Volkmer was born on May 23, 1939; the son of Leo J. and Laurine E. (Heng) Volkmer. He was baptized on May 29, 1939 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Paul, Neb. He attended school and graduated from St. Bernard’s Academy (Lourdes Central Catholic) with the class of 1958. Keith was united in marriage to Marlene E. Roos on Sept. 1, 1960 and to this union four children were born: Colleen, Kent, Brian and Amy. Keith worked many jobs in his life from selling ag-related chemical products to insurance. Keith and Marlene retired from American Family Insurance in Tecumseh in 1999 and a year later moved to Auburn to be closer to their grandchildren, Sarah and Kevin. After retirement, Keith enjoyed helping his son-in-law John farm, and also helped hauling grain for other farmer friends. He enjoyed Husker football and socializing with people as only he could do! He enjoyed his extensive collection of toy tractors and other vintage toys and volunteering at Lewis and Clark Museum. He also participated in the Civil War Re-enactments. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo (1989) and Laurine (2005), parents in law: Lyman and Ruth and Charlotte Roos, a brother-in-law Ron Waller and niece Ronna Bremmer. He is survived by his wife Marlene  of Auburn; sons: Brian Volkmer of Nebraska City and Kent Volkmer and wife Lori of Auburn; daughters: Colleen Volkmer of Brownville, Neb. and Amy Borrenpohl and husband John of Johnson, Neb.; grandchildren: Sarah Zak and husband Gerard of Omaha, Neb. and Kevin Volkmer and fiance’ Chelsea Flaska of Tecumseh, Neb.; brothers; Gary Volkmer and wife Celeste of Omaha and Lee Volkmer and wife Mary Jean of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters: Sr. Veronica Volkmer of Waverly, Neb., Marlene Ricketts and husband Joe and Mary Ann Waller both of Omaha and Kathy Camby and husband Shu of Roca, Neb.; many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 21 at St. Joseph‘s Catholic Church near Paul. Burial followed in St. Joseph‘s Cemetery. A Rosary was recited on Friday, July 20 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Memorials may be given to Catholic Social Services.
