John Allen Rist, 73, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on January 27, 1948 in Humboldt to Louis G. and Marjorie (Baker) Rist. He was raised on a farm southwest of Humboldt and attended school in Humboldt. John was proud of his heritage. He was the fifth generation of a Swiss family that came to Humboldt in 1856. Now there are seven generations who have lived in Nebraska and he was named after his great-grandfather, John Rist.

He graduated from Peru State College in 1970 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Education. John then taught Business Education at Columbus High School from 1971 to 1981. He then changed courses and became manager of the American Legion Club in Humboldt from 1981 to 2006. From 2007 to 2010 John worked at True-Value Hardware as a weekend manager and assistant manager during the week until retiring in 2010.

In 1981, John was united in marriage to Loretta E. Buss. The couple raised three children Tammy, Nicole and Marcus who all graduated from Humboldt High School. He was especially proud that all three went on to graduate college and on to having successful careers. John enjoyed gardening and working on puzzles. He also enjoyed working in the yard and planting flowers.
