JOAN ELAINE (LOVELADY) HODGES

1929-2023

Joan Elaine (Lovelady) Hodges was born on April 15, 1929 in Nebraska City, the daughter of Ike and Lenore (Spinner) Lovelady. She graduated from Julian High School with the Class of 1946. Following her graduation, she attended Peru State College where she received her teaching certificate.

Joan taught country school for a few years until her marriage on June 6, 1948 to John James Hodges at the Methodist Church in Julian. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Julian and a member of the former Julian Extension Club.

Joan Hodges entered eternal peace Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

She is survived by her children: Daniel Hodges (Sue) and Patrick Hodges (Gail) all of Julian; Randall Hodges (Ruth) of Lansing, Mich. and Diane (Hodges) Stalcup of Auburn; nine grandchildren: Brian Hodges (Aubrey), Shane Hodges (De-Marcio), Michael Hodges (Christy), Timothy Hodges (Jen), John Hodges (Katey), Amy Casey (Chris), Emily Anthony (Blane), Mary Head (David) and Ben Hodges; 16 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Abigail, Andrew, Caleb, Liam, Ainsley, Kallan, Baylor, Gretchen, Craig, Mitchell, Chloe, Ellie, Ciara, Justin and Josh; other extended family members and many friends.

Hodges was preceded by her husband John on July 23, 2009; grandson Justin Hodges; son-in-law Jim Stalcup; and siblings, Kenneth Lovelady and Lois Spratling.

The service was Monday, April 17 at the United Methodist Church in Julian. Officiating were Revs. John Henderson and Ever Mudambanuki.

Interment was at Camp Creek Cemetery near Nebraska City.

Gude Mortuary of Nebraska City was in charge of arrangements.
