IDA (MRS. ALVIN) KUHLMANN

1916-2019

Ida Emma Louise (Michel) Kuhlmann, daughter of Franz and Josephine (Oestmann) Michel, was born August 18, 1916 on a farm west of Auburn, Nebraska. She was one of six children. Ida was baptized September 10, 1916 by Rev. Theodore Streng and was confirmed March 29, 1931 by Pastor Streng at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn. She received her education at Hickory Grove School Distirict #27. Ida worked for several years as a hired girl.

On October 21, 1943 Ida was married to Alvin C. Kuhlmann at Hickory Grove Lutheran Church by Rev. B. C. Weibke. It was a double wedding with Ernest (Alvin’s brother) and Rosina (Ida’s sister). Three children were born to their union: Myrna, Marlene, and Merle.

Alvin and Ida farmed around the Tecumseh and Sterling communities. In 1959 they moved to Auburn. They joined Trinity Lutheran Church, where Ida was a charter member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, held offices in the League, and was a Sunday School teacher.

Ida also worked for Campbell’s Soup in Tecumseh, was a sales clerk for Warden & Co. for 11 years, and worked with the Auburn High School lunch program.

After Alvin’s passing on April 26, 1974 Ida continued to live in Auburn for many years. She became a resident of Belle Terrace in Tecumseh in August of 2011, and for a time shared a room with her daughter Myrna Corbin until her passing on August 26, 2018. Ida passed away at Belle Terrace on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the age of 103 years, 2 months, and 30 days. In addition to her parents, her husband Alvin, and her daughter Myrna, Ida was preceded in death by her son-in-law Roger Corbin; granddaughter Tina Scott; brothers and their wives Art and Luveda Michel, Emil and Vera Michel; sisters and their husbands Helen and Gustav Bohling, Louise and Alfred Hogrefe, Rosina and Ernest Kuhlmann; sisters-in-law Rosa and Leona Kuhlmann; brothers-in-law Reinhardt and wife Leona Kuhlmann, Walter, Edmund, and Ervin Kuhlmann.

Those surviving are her children and their spouses Marlene and Wayne Dietrich of Auburn and Merle and Lora Kuhlmann of Beatrice; grandchildren Christopher and Bonnie Corbin of Port Orchard, Wash., Michele and Matthew Kinsey of Broken Arrow, Okla., Tamra and Vinny D’Andrea of Beatrice; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jeane Kuhlmann, Manetta Kuhlmann; many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was Monday, November 25, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Rathjen. Sandy Wilson was organist for congregational hymns. Casket bearers were Doug Lueders, Jim Parrish, Vinny D’Andrea, Matthew Kinsey, Logan Glynn, Xander Glynn, Jacob Kinsey, and Nathaniel Kinsey. Honorary bearers were Shawntel, Terelle, LaShell, Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Austin. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran (Stutheit) Cemetery south of Johnson.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
