GERALDINE M. “GERRY” BOHLING

1928-2022

1928-2022 Geraldine Marie Bohling was born to Albert and Viola (Volker) Plager on September 22, 1928 on the family farm near Table Rock, Nebraska. She was baptized by Reverend E. F. Geyer on October 14, 1928 and confirmed by Reverend H. G. Bents on October 25, 1942 at St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church near Humboldt Nebraska. After attending Bush School through the Eighth Grade she began working for families in the area helping with housework and spent several years as a homemaker for Dr. Stappenbeck’s family. Her sister Alberta and herself moved into an apartment in Auburn and worked for two years at Danny Dare.

On November 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to Richard G. Bohling by Reverend Aug F Blobaum at St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church. They were blessed with six children (Elyse, Marvin, Keith, Bradley, Marilyn and Marlin). Days were busy with Gerry working alongside Richard in the dairy farming operation, and raising chickens and selling eggs. She loved working in her garden, sewing, and quilting. In her spare time, she read books.

Following their marriage Geraldine joined Richard as a member of the St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn, Neb. She became a member of the Ruth Naomi Circle in 1958 and held several offices in women’s organizations at Hickory Grove. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Johnson. Geraldine enjoyed sewing for her family as well as for the church. She has made numerous quilts for her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

After Geraldine suffered a stroke in February 2019, she was admitted to Good Samaritan Home in Auburn where she passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 7 days. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Bohling and son Marlin Bohling and brother-in-law Ralph Parsell and sister-in-law Margaret Plager and in laws William and Viola (Bohling) Winter; Bernard and Alvina (Bohling) Kuhlmann; Rudolph Bohling; Walt and Dorothy (Bohling) Kettlehut; Roy and Sophie (Bohling) Rizor; and Wes and Hulda (Bohling) Zier.

Geraldine is survived by her children Elyse Bohling of North Platte, Marvin and wife Karen Bohling of Johnson, Keith and wife Janet Bohling of Johnson, Bradley and wife Sarah Bohling of San Acacia, N.M., Marilyn and husband Jon Ellingson of Gretna, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sister, Alberta Parsell of Springfield, Ohio, and brother Loren Plager of Table Rock, Neb.; sister-inlaw Betty Bohling and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Saturday, April 2, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Church near Auburn, officiated by Rev. Paul Lillenas. Eiber Alberts provided prelude music, Deanne Gerking played accompaniment for congregational hymns and solos by Christina Lillenas and Allyn Remmers.

Casket bearers were grandsons Eli Morton, Philip Hammer, Jeremiah Bohling, Chester Bohling, Benjamin Bohling, Paul Bohling, Justin Ellingson, Jacob Ellingson, and Joshua Ellingson.

Flower attendants were granddaughters Etta Morton, Anna Morton, Roena Morton, Sarah (Bohling) Nelson, Kelsey Bohling, Jessica Bohling, Sarah Bohling, and Marissa Ellingson.

Honorary bearers were great-grandsons Blaine Bohling, Bennett Bohling, and Luketavious Nelson. Honorary flower attendant was great-granddaughter Kamilla Nelson.

Burial followed in St. Paul Lutheran (Hickory Grove) Cemetery near Auburn.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
