GEORGE E. BOOMER

1930-2020

George Everett Boomer, 89, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2020. George was born on September 16, 1930, in Lincoln, to Hobert and Clara Boomer, and was a devoted and loving husband, father and friend. After graduating from Lincoln High School, George enrolled at the University of Nebraska at the age of 16. George lettered in swimming at the University and was a life-long fan of all Cornhusker sports. George also proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, serving with the army security agency in Asia.

George was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Mary Maxine Wheeler Boomer, his parents, brothers Hobert and Marshall Boomer, and sister Norma Hayes. George is survived by his sons, Scott and John Boomer, and step-children, Roger Schmidt, Patrice Olsen and Alan Schmidt.

George was a great story-teller who was always eager to recount for others some of the adventures from his extensive travels, as well as a glimpse of his vast knowledge of obscure facts, both useless and consequential. Everyone enjoyed being around George.

Cremation has taken place, and interment will occur at the Bedford Cemetery in Howe, Nebraska, on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
