GARY ALVIN STOVER

1942-2020

Gary Alvin Stoner was born June 15, 1942 in Humboldt, Neb. to Alvin Christian Stover and Doris Eleanor (Williams) Stover. Gary died at his home at St. Petersburg, Fla. on July 24, 1920. Gary was baptized and confirmed at St. John (Stone) Lutheran Church. His early education was at a country school, then Bratton Union Consolidated School. He attended Peru State College where he was active in student activities, their theater program and other school groups. He graduated in 1964 with a degree in education. His first teaching job was in

Fort Madison, Iowa. There he met his wife Pamela Knapp and two daughters were born to this union. He received his masters degree in educational administration at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. After teaching in Thermopolis, Wyo. they moved to Lander, Wyo. where he was assistant principal at Lander High School. He loved the Lander area for its natural beauty, mountains, waterfalls and lots of fishing and hunting.

After his school career, he moved to Colorado and got his real estate license and enjoyed a different calling. He married Diana Ohman and they moved to Germany. Gary worked with a college consortium helping soldiers further their education. They also lived in South Korea and did extensive traveling in Europe and Asia.

Gary retired to St. Petersburg, Fla. where his daughters and grandchildren reside. He started back in the real estate business part-time, he also enjoyed fishing and boating in the Gulf of Mexico with his family. His favorite pastime was going to the Tampa Bay Rays games and watching the grandkids’ school and sporting events.

Those left to mourn his passing are his daughters Kathryn Stover and Christine (Brian Scwartzwelder) Stover of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren Phelan Eleanor Stover and Gavin Stover Scwartzwelder; sister Gail (Bob) Mayer of Auburn; two nephews Joel (Trisha) Kelsay and Andrew (Tiffany) Kelsay, great-nephew Garrett Kelsay and great-niece Gracelyn Kelsay.

No services were held as Gary requested to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Gulf of Mexico. Condolences can be sent to Gail Meyer, 63718 724 Road, Auburn, NE 68305 and will be shared with the Florida family.
