DOROTHY C. NIEDERMEYER

1929-2021

Dorothy Christine (Grube) Niedermeyer was born January 22, 1929 on the family farm outside Johnson, Nebraska. One of four children of Henry and Frances (Blinde) Grube, Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson. She attended school in Johnson and graduated from Johnson High School as the only member of the Class of 1946. She then attended Peru State College and earned her teaching certificate. Dorothy taught at a country school after college.

On February 17, 1949 Dorothy married Louis H. F. Niedermeyer at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm near Johnson and would be blessed with three children: Ardell, Harold, and Debra.

On the farm Dorothy pitched in to help with the work, including milking cows. She also was very active in her church and community. She joined Zion United Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship. Dorothy was active in extension club and the Volkswalk. Her involvement in clubs included holding offices and attending state conventions.

Dorothy was known for her artwork as well. She designed stained-glass windows for the church in Talmage and painted murals on buildings in Johnson.

Louis passed in 1991 and Dorothy eventually moved into Johnson. In 2017 she became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, Nebraska. It was at Good Sam she passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 3 days. In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Harold, sister and brother-in-law Vernell and Bill Wilson, and brother Lee Grube.

Dorothy will be remembered with love by her daughters Ardell Plasek of Wahoo, Debra Niedermeyer of Johnson; grandsons and spouses Aaron (Sapna) Mendon-Plasek of New York, N.Y. and Matt (Allie) Wilson-Plasek of Santa Rosa, Calif.; brother and sisters-in-law Dale (Anne) Grube of Shoreline, Wash. and Jan Grube of Ft. Myers, Fla.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Revs. Roger Hoffman and Carla Patterson. Debbie Meyer was soloist accompanied by Susie Hogrefe. Serving as casket bearers were

Don Gadeken, Lyle Brinkman, Robert Niedermeyer, Randy Niedermeyer, Dennis Meyer, and Kenny Rosenthal. Grandsons Aaron Mendon-Plasek and Matt Wilson-Plasek were honorary bearers. Burial followed in Grant Evergreen Cemetery near Talmage.

Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
