Dorothea Lovina (Alberts) Kuhlmann was born July 10, 1925 to Henry and Clara (Tuxhorn) Alberts in Table Rock, Nebraska. She was the oldest of four children. Dorothea was baptized Aug. 2, 1925 by Rev. F. Geyer and confirmed Feb. 11, 1940 by Rev. Herbert Brokering at St. James Lutheran Church. She attended rural school at North West Star District 10 in Richardson County through the eighth grade. She started working at a young age helping others with housework and at age 18 she began working at the Humboldt hospital for two years and the Holman Hospital for three years. On Aug. 19, 1947, she was married to Arnold Kuhlmann at St. James by Rev. H. Bents. To this union were born three children: Rodney, Debra and Kevin. They lived on a farm for 10 years and in 1958 they moved into Humboldt. Arnold and Dorothea had the Humboldt Greenhouse there during the 60’s and 70’s. Dorothea especially loved doing wedding flowers. She also worked 32 years in the doctor’s office until she retired at age 65. Then she started cleaning house for others and had many good memories of the ones she worked for. When Arnold and Dorothea moved to Humboldt they joined Faith Lutheran Church where she belonged to Altar Guild and was treasurer for many years for Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She and Arnold loved traveling to Branson, Missouri with friends. Dorothea enjoyed baking, canning, embroidery, quilting, dancing and playing cards. She especially loved visits from her family. Arnold passed away in March of 2009 and in July, Dorothea moved to an apartment in Auburn and made many new friends. When she moved to Auburn, she transferred her church membership to Trinity Auburn. Dorothea became a resident of Ridgeview Towers and Belle Terrace in Tecumseh. She passed away there on December 30, 2017 at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her sons, Rodney Kuhlmann and wife Susan of Omaha and Kevin Kuhlmann and wife Linda of Tecumseh; son-inlaw, George Dunlap of Falls City, grandchildren, Christine Hudnall, Kathleen Pruiett, Corrinne McHie (Vince), Kelly Smith (Brian), Deborah Bollie (David), Patrick Coonce (Valerie), Jon Dunlap (Karen), Nicole Einspahr (Rich), Kaleb Kuhlmann and Kade Kuhlmann; 13 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Oestmann and husband Gerald of Auburn and Willy Moerer and husband Wayne of Johnson; brother, Eiber Alberts and wife Marlene of Auburn; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; daughter, Debra Dunlap; parents and parents-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, Nebraska, with Rev. Jonathan Rathjen officiating. Organist Sandy Wilson accompanied congregational hymns, “Just As I Am”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “I’m But A Stranger Here” and Pastor Rathjen sang “Saved By Grace.” Pallbearers were Kaleb Kuhlmann, Kade Kuhlmann, Patrick Coonce, Jon Dunlap, Christine Hudnall and Kelly Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Kathleen Pruiett, Corrinne McHie, Nicole Einspahr and Deborah Bollie. Memorials may go to the family’s choice with a later designation. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Cemetery, rural Humboldt, Nebraska. Services were entrusted to Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
