1936-2017 Darla M. Stukenholtz, age 80 of rural Peru, NE passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska. Darla Mae (Herold) Stukenholtz was born on August 14, 1936 in Shenandoah, Iowa; the daughter of Wayne William and Winifred Faye (Nicks) Herold. Her family later moved to Nebraska City where she graduated from Nebraska City High School with the class of 1954. She was united in marriage to Louis Dean Stukenholtz on November 28, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City. Prior to her marriage, she worked at American Meter Company and was a Telephone Operator. As the family grew, she was a housewife and homemaker and later she owned and operated Country Handmades and Collectables in Auburn, Neb. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, Red Hat Ladies, Extension Club, Oakdale Club, and Modern Misses. Darla was a gifted Oil and Tole Painter and Craft Painter and she was an avid gardener with large vegetable and flower gardens. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Louis Stukenholtz of rural Peru, Neb.; children: Randall Stukenholtz of rural Peru; Christy Bish and husband Brad of Giltner, Neb.; James Stukenholtz of rural Peru; Laurie Stukenholtz of rural Brock, Neb.; Daniel Stukenholtz and wife Kathy of rural Brock; Thomas Stukenholtz and wife Tina of rural Brock; Amy Kroll and husband Rob of rural Peru, and Cynthia Monson and husband B.J. of rural Brock; 16 grandchildren: Andrew Bish, Justin Stukenholtz, Blake Stukenholtz, Jacob Bish, Caleb Stukenholtz, Xander Monson, Cyrus Monson, Emily Bish, Jolene Sletten, Trisha Reierson, Stephanie Stukenholtz, Lindsey Stukenholtz, Tyler Stukenholtz, Chloe Kroll, Morgan Kroll and Piper Monson and eight great-grandchildren; siblings: Gloria “Bev” Helms and husband Terry of Cook, Neb.; Romelle Copenhaver and husband Ron of Plattsmouth, Neb.; Carter Herold and wife Dorothy of Nebraska City; Sunda Kay Doiel of Auburn; Courtney Herold of Nebraska City; Gayle Herold of Auburn, and Mike Herold and significant other Paula of Rock Port, Missouri; many other family and friends. Darla was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Abigail Kroll on Sept. 15, 1996. A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass was held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Michael Ventre officiating. Burial followed at St. Bernard’s Cemetery near Julian. A rosary was recited following Sunday’s visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lourdes Performing Arts Department or St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.
