ARDIS LENEVE (HIGGINS) BEHRENDS

1924-2020

Ardis Leneve (Higgins) Behrends, 96, of Auburn, Nebraska was born on March 20, 1924, to Floyd H. and Minnie V. (Pugh) Higgins. She attended Forest Grove (Dist. 19) located near the family farm northeast of Auburn. Ardis graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1941. After graduation, she worked at the Lincoln Telephone Office in Auburn and then the Glenn L. Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha. After moving back to Auburn in 1951, she worked at the ASCS Office for 30 years, retiring in 1983.

In 1943, Ardis was united in marriage to Bernard “Bud” Jess McCord. To this union two children, Bernard Jack and Jillaine Kay were born. The couple would later divorce. On November 26, 1975, she was united in marriage to Harlan Behrends, who passed away April 25, 2004.

Ardis was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagle’s Auxiliary all in Auburn and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed dancing with Harlan, playing cards, embroidering and working puzzles. Ardis loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all the rest of her family and friends. She was loved by many people of all ages and made friends easily because she was kind and thoughtful of others. Ardis had a great sense of humor, but family was always first with her.

Ardis went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Auburn having reached the earthly age of 96 years, eight months and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Clifford, Gordon, Eldon, Berle and Darrel Higgins; sisters Dolores Green and Floydean Hawley; grandsons Jared Hagemeier and Derek Behrends; brothers-in-law Edgar Green, Leland Hawley, Lawrence Hector; sisters-in-law Barbara Higgins, Lillian Higgins, Alberta Hector, Marcelene Behrends and other relatives and too many friends.

She is survived by her son Bernard (Sheryl) McCord of Leland, N.C., daughter Jillaine Hagemeier of Auburn and stepson Kirby Behrends, also of Auburn; sisters-in-law Velda Higgins of Newton, Kan. and Wilma Higgins of Grand Island; brother-in-law Marvin Behrends of Auburn, cousin Robert Jerauld of Carmichael, Calif.; grandchildren Heidi McCord (Brian Konfrst), Kirsten (Curt) Cashett and Heather McCord, all of Glenwood, Iowa; Danielle (Jesse) Mikelonis of North Carolina; Kerry Hagemeier of Mitchell, S.D.; Jessie (Noah) Zahn of Omaha; Jamie (Tyler) Heng of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Zach McCord, Nicole (Chris) Adrian, Carly McCord, Angel BoVee, Hannah Rush, Christian Rush, Cooper Heng, Maddox Heng, Reece Heng, Elias Zahn, Xavier Zahn, Leneve Zahn, Gavin Hagemeier; great-great grandchildren Leviticus Adrian, River Adrian, Indypendence Adrian, Phoenyx Adrian, McKenna McCord Rose, Fallon Huftless, Kasyn McCord, Keegan Sears; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Private Family Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 19, 2020, at the Hall Funeral Chapel, 707 15th Street in Auburn, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Osborne officiating. A live Facebook broadcast of services for the public will be available on our Hall Funeral Chapel Facebook page. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.

Visitation for public will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the Hall Funeral Chapel, 707 15th Street in Auburn, Nebraska. Masks and social distancing are required during this time. Interment will be at Sheri

Interment will be at Sheridan Cemetery in Auburn.
