Iva Dell Hogrefe was born October 15, 1942 in Auburn, Nebraska to Alfred and Louise (Michel) Hogrefe. Iva grew up on the family farm in Johnson, Nebraska where she attended Johnson Elementary School, and graduated from Johnson High School in 1960. Growing up, Iva was active in Pep Club and the Luther League at her church. Iva married Donald Helms on July 10, 1960 at Hickory Grove Church in Auburn, Nebraska, and to this union, three daughters were born; Stephanie, Kimberly, and Michelle. The family made their home in Gretna, Nebraska. Iva married Douglas Turner on October 18, 1975 at the Sarpy County 6Courthouse in Papillion, Nebraska. Iva ran her own home daycare for many years in Gretna. After closing her daycare, she worked for Control Data, and then First Data in Omaha. She enjoyed square dancing, camping and fishing with her family, attending car shows and stock car races, and was a Husker football fan. Her favorite vacation was her trip to Alaska. She loved red roses, and was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. She will be remembered as a strong, spiritual, supportive, loving and self-less woman, who cherished her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Iva died Friday, August 17, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Louise, sisters: Elenora Caspers, Betty Buss, Rosalie Wentworth, and Grace Hoss. Iva is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law Stephanie (Sonny) Johnson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kim (Jeff) Karbowski of Elkhorn, and Michelle French of Valley, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and sister and brother-in-law Beverly (John) McLaughlin of Lincoln. Funeral service were held Tuesday, August 21 at the Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Elkhorn. Memorials to the American Cancer Society.
