Elda Elenora (Haack) Beethe was born to Julius and Emilie (Deubler) Haack on April 6, 1922 in Nemaha County, Nebraska. She was one of seven children. She was baptized May 1, 1922 and confirmed Sept. 16, 1934 at Martin Luther Church, rural Johnson, Nebraska by Rev. William Fruehling. Elda grew up in the Nemaha and Johnson County rural areas. She attended elementary school at Mount Auburn and Twin Oak Country Schools through the eighth grade. After her schooling, Elda worked in people’s homes doing housework and cooking for families and later worked at Jerpe’s and Swanson’s Soup Plant until her marriage. Elda was united in marriage to Clarence Beethe on November 15, 1950 at Martin Luther Church, rural Johnson by Rev. William Fruehling. To this union one daughter, Beverly Joan was born. Clarence and Elda made their home near Elk Creek. They built a new house on their farm in 1951. Elda became a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Elk Creek after her marriage. Her faith and going to church were very important to her. She also went to sewing with the ladies for many years. Elda loved cooking, gardening and working on her farm. For many years Elda entered her produce at the Johnson County Fair. Clarence passed away September 12, 1963 after battling leukemia for three years. Elda had a hired man to help after the loss of Clarence to provide an income for her family. Many evenings Elda enjoyed sewing, especially crocheting. Great times were spent playing cards with family and friends. Elda enjoyed being with people and always had a smile for others. She always made you feel welcome. Elda passed away on June 15, 2018 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, Nebraska, after a long battle with five different cancers lasting 32 years and congestive heart problems. She had recently been in the hospital and nursing home recuperating from a broken ankle. Elda reached the earthly age of 96 years, 2 months and 9 days. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Beethe of Elk Creek; sister, Doloris Bohling of Gretna; brother, Roger Haack of Beatrice; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Elda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence Beethe; sisters, Oleta Rinne, Doloma Rinne, Luetta Volker and brother, Lorraine Haack, brothers and sisters in law, Walter and Clara Heideman, Arnold and Lorene Gottula, Emmett Beethe, Allen Rinne, Marvin Rinne, Ted Bohling, Erwin Volker, Kathleen Haack and Dorothy Haack, niece, Christine Volker and nephew, Larry Beethe. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, with Rev. Robert Schermbeck officiating. Loretta Kerchal, organist, will accompany congregational hymns, “Lift High The Cross”, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “I’m But A Stranger Here.” Special music will include “In The Garden” and “Abide With Me” by James Hinz. Pallbearers are Gary Volker, Rodney Rinne, Arlen Bohling, Randall Rinne and Terry Haack. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Heideman, Eugene Beethe, Don Gottula, Dennis Gottula, Dan Gottula and Jerry Harder. Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska. Memorials may go to the family’s choice. Services were entrusted to Wherry Mortuary, Tecumseh, Nebraska.
