Water & Taxes Town Hall

Water & Taxes Town Hall

NEBRASKA GOVERNOR Pete Ricketts (left) and John McClure, Executive Vice President of External Affairs & General Counsel with Nebraska Public Power District were among those speaking during a Feb. 18 “Water & Taxes” Town Hall meeting at the Lewis & Clark Visitors Center near Nebraska City. Governor Ricketts discussed his legislative priorities to protect and develop the state’s water resources, and to deliver much-needed tax relief to Nebraskans. Ricketts and others, including McClure, remarked about the importance of taking action to prevent a drastic reduction in the amount of South Platte River water flowing into Nebraska from Colorado. The South Platte River is an essential source of water for agricultural irrigation in Nebraska, and it supplies Platte River communities with drinking water. More details about the town hall will follow in next week’s Herald.

Board Addresses Issues with Courthouse

A $445,975 bid from AHRS Construction, Inc. of Bern, Kan. was approved Wednesday morning, Feb. 16 by the Nemaha County Commissioners. It is regarding foundation restoration at the Nemaha County Courthouse as there have been drainage and mold issues with the building’s foundation. Those problems have been attributed to rainwater, snow and moisture in general. The bid includes an alternative which extends a steel grate support structure.
