Johnson-Brock School Awarded the Nebraska Autism Spectrum Disorder Network Friend of Autism Award

Every student and teacher at Johnson-Brock school knows Weston Niss. The fifth grade student, who is on the autism spectrum, transferred to Johnson-Brock to be closer to family after his father Bryce’s death in November of 2020. The same day that Dani Niss, or how she is commonly known around the Johnson community “Weston’s Mom”, contacted the Johnson-Brock superintendent about enrollment, she received a call from Sheila Borcher, the Johnson-Brock elementary special education teacher, inquiring about Weston and the best way to support him. Dani Niss said that the phone call from Mrs. Borcher was the first act of the Johnson-Brock School staff’s persistence and commitment to making sure that Weston had a great experience at Johnson-Brock and had a supportive and caring environment to learn.
