Shopko Says Auburn Hometown Store Will Close Around May 5th

Shopko announced Wednesday, Feb. 6, that it will close 174 more stores including its Auburn Shopko Hometown store in the Crestview Shopping Center. It is also closing its Falls City and Beatrice Shopko Hometown stores, among others throughout the state and region, following a similar time frame.

Shopko, which was purchased in 2005 by Sun Capital Partners, a private equity group, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 16 and said it is restructuring “as a result of excess debt and ongoing competitive pressures.”

Also last month, Shopko announced the closing of 105 stores which included several in Lincoln and others in the state. However, Auburn’s store wasn’t listed among those which would close at that time.

The Feb. 6 announcement means that by later this spring, Shopko will no longer have a presence in the region. The Auburn store is listed as in liquidation stage 5 and has a May 5, 2019 estimated last day of operation. The Shopko Hometown stores in Falls City and Beatrice are in liquidation stage 6 with a May 12 estimated final day of operation.
