Project Response Observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month by Using Purple Ribbons

Purple ribbons are now on display on utility poles in Auburn and Peru. “We’re trying to recognize and raise awareness of domestic violence, and to have people associate the color purple with domestic violence,” said Ashley Robertson. Robertson is director of Project Response.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Project Response is the domestic and sexual violence agency serving residents of Nemaha, Johnson, Pawnee, Otoe and Richardson counties. Advocates can be reached at 1-800-456-5764 on the agency’s 24-hour crisis hotline.

If you or someone you know is being physically, mentally/emotionally or sexually abused Project Response can help. All available services are offered free of charge and completely confidential.

The organization provides other services in addition to the hotline. Those include emergency shelter and transportation to victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, assistance in finding safe and affordable housing, crisis counseling, personal advocacy, protection order assistance, court and medical accompaniment, personal care items and clothing vouchers to The Neighborhood Closet to those in need as well as community education.
