Nemaha County Commissioners Discuss Strategy to Address Shortcomings of Courthouse

A master plan is underway to document deficiencies at the Nemaha County Courthouse.

The county commissioners discussed the issue with Jerry Berggren of Berggren Architects Wednesday morning, Oct. 14. Berggren Architects specializes in historic restoration and the adaptive reuse of historical structures.

“You’ve got a great building in a lot of aspects,” Berggren relates.

The architect is seeking guidance from the board as well as encouraging input from employees of county offices. Chair Bryan Mellage states the commissioners need direction from Berggren to allow them to move forward. Berggren replied a survey has been sent to county officials but only one response has been received from the assessor. He told the newspaper he typically does individual interviews with elected officials, but is not doing that with the ongoing pandemic.
