In God We Trust Display in Nemaha County Courthouse Accepted; No Public Funds Used

Wednesday morning, Oct. 31 the Nemaha County Commissioners unanimously approved displaying In God We Trust at the courthouse. The location is to be determined. Materials showing the national motto are to be paid for by private individuals. No taxpayer funds will be used. County Clerk Joyce Oakley presented signatures of 19 individuals supporting exhibiting the motto. They were mostly from residents of Longs Creek Village Assisted Living. Chair Marvin Bohling stated he has heard nothing negative regarding placing In God We Trust on public view, seeing no reason not to do so. Bryan Mellage, District 2 commissioner, noted the only concerns he heard were from two members of the clergy, nervous about possibly stirring up issues. Earlier last month, Barb Otto of Spencer presented the issue to the commissioners. Otto is the Cornhusker State volunteer of a national movement encouraging presenting In God We Trust in county and city meeting rooms and state capitol buildings. She prefers not using taxpayer money on any signage.
