Funding Support of Proposed Southeast Nebraska Drug Court Approved Feb. 20 By Nemaha County Commissioners

Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, the Nemaha County Commissioners allowed financially supporting the proposed Southeast Nebraska Adult Drug Court. The county’s first year contribution will be $5,009.76.

Larry Holtzman, District 3 commissioner, reported after talking with District Judge Julie Smith, he believes it is a good concept. It will be a long-term program with the hope of participants turning around their lives, Holtzman stated.

Sheriff Brent Lottman also is in favor of it. Marvin Bohling, former District 3 commissioner, said it concurs with the diversion program for younger persons, giving you a second chance while removing a felony charge from your record.

“If you can save one or two individuals, it’s worth spending $5,000 a year. It conforms with the (newly adopted) county mission statement. In the long run, you will realize a lot of savings that do not show up,” Bohling concluded.
